Obituary

Johnnie Mae Hammonds was born on January 28, 1925 in Madison County to the late James and Merina Hammonds. She departed this life on August 24, 2007 in Huntsville, Alabama.

She was a member of Douglas Tabernacle Primitive Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hammonds leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Roy Hammonds and his wife Sylvia Hammonds of Huntsville, AL, Gregory Hammonds and his wife Anna Hammonds of Norcross, Georgia and Steve Hammonds of Huntsville, AL; two sisters Lucille (James T.) Walker of Huntsville, AL and Helen Pace of Ann Arbor, Michigan; one brother James (Mary) Hammonds, Jr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two stepsons, Calvin and Melvin Jacobs of Huntsville, AL; one stepdaughter, Preanne Jacobs of Huntsville, AL; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; two dear friends, Mary Jane Moore and Anita Johnson. The family would like to say a special thanks to Stephanie Drummond for the care she gave to our mother.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hammonds will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2007 from the Douglas Tabernacle Primitive Baptist Church located at 1419 Calvary Street – Huntsville, AL with Reverend Robert Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Indian Creek Cemetery with Nelms Memorial Funeral Home handling the arrangements. The remains of Mrs. Hammonds will be in the church one hour prior to funeral time.
