Rutledge, Alexander H. Age 87, of Marshfield Aug, 22. Husband of 64 years of Barbara (Flahive) Rutledge. Father of Leslie Hawkins of Halifax, MA. and Jeffrey Rutledge of Marshfield. Grandfather of Ned Myers, Brad Myers and Amy Francis. Also survived by 4 great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held on September 8, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at PJ’s Country House Rte 3A Scituate, MA. Interment Services will be private. Born in Halifax N.S. and raised in Winchester, MA.
Graduated from Northeastern University
Moved to Marshfield in 1946 and began a business career with the INA.
In the late 50’s he started an independent insurance adjusting firm which later expanded to multiple offices throughout the state.
In the early 70’s he, along with his wife, Barbara, and another business partner, founded a real estate brokerage firm which still exists today.
Mr. Rutledge retired from the business this past December.
During his working life he was active on many civic and business committees.

A two time Past President of the Plymouth County Board of Realtors and was named Realtor of the year on several occasions.

Mr. Rutledge had many varied and eclectic interest from art and horticulture to sports and business. He loved animals with a particular proclivity for White, Blue eyed cats and the ever-present Olde English Sheepdogs that graced him for the last 40 years.
Veteran of WWII
Served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 11th Airborne Division
After the war he joined the National Guard and became Captain in the Yankee Division Military Police.
