GLOUCESTER: Daniel A. Robinson, 90, of Annisquam, died unexpectedly, Monday, August 20, 2007. He was the beloved husband of Julia K. (Shermard) Robinson. They just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on August 19th.
Born in Gloucester on September 14, 1916, he was the son of the late Daniel A. and Maude S. (Howard) Robinson. He has resided in Gloucester most of his life. He was a graduate of Rockport High School and the Wentworth Institute, class of 1936.
Mr. Robinson, along with his wife, owned and operated the Robinson Marina on Lobster Cove, where they also sold lobsters and clams. He also once worked as a machinist in the mills and managed the former Hamilton Ski Slopes.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife and was a member of the Retreads. He was also a model plane enthusiast and a member of the R.C. Model Club. He built his own home from a former boat house on Lobster Cove. An avid outdoorsman, he loved the water and boats and enjoyed skiing and snowmobiling from his farm house in Sweden, Maine. His other interests include reading, playing the harmonica, singing and walking on the boulevard with his wife. He loved participating in his grandchildren’s lives. He was also a great animal lover and will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gail L. Robinson-Neff and Richard M. Neff, three grandchildren, Sasha, Torrie and Tucker Robinson-Neff all of Gloucester and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by Ethel C. “Auntie” Earle with whom he was raised and two brothers, Howard and William Robinson.
His funeral services will be privately held in the Mt. Adnah Cemetery in Annisquam. At the family’s request, there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
