Alton E. Hanscom, a resident of Charlestown for the last 68 years, died on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Youville Hospital in Cambridge following a lengthy illness. He was 73 years old.
Al was born in Cambridge and attended Boston Public Schools. He worked for the Boston Housing Authority in Charlestown for 40 years as a laborer. He retired in 1998.
Al is the beloved husband of Edna E. (Auch) Hanscom. He is the devoted father of Gene Lawrence and his wife Leigh-Anne, Joan Lawrence and her companion Danny, Liz Hanscom and her husband Tony Resendes, Alton Hanscom and his wife Diane Wrenn and the late Judy and James Lawrence and Michael Hanscom. He is the loving grandfather of 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Richard Hanscom, Barbara O'Connell and the late Frances, Lorraine, Douglas and John.
Al's Funeral will be held on Monday, August 20, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Catherine's Church 49 Vine St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Al will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
