John P. Brooks Jr., 76, of Fordway, Derry died Thursday December 12, 2002 at his home following a lengthy illness. Mr. Brooks was born in Derry on September 30, 1926, the son of the late John P. and Mary I. (Todd) Brooks Sr. He had been a lifelong resident of Derry. He had retired from Modutec, Manchester where he had worked in quality control for many years. He had served as Past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion Post #9, Derry. He had volunteered with the American Legion delivering food and gifts to the less fortunate during the holiday season. He was also involved with the Space Town Cadets and the P.E.A.C.H. organization. Mr. Brooks was an avid fan of the N.E. Patriots and the Pinkerton Academy football program. He loved his family and enjoyed cooking for them, as well as traveling and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine V. (Brown) Brooks, Derry, one son, John “Jay” (wife Lorraine) Brooks, Londonderry, three daughters, Sheila B. (husband Leslie) Evans, South Portland, ME, Sharon R. (husband Robert) Cyr, Helena, Mont, Sandra K. (husband Donald) Collyns, Wakefield, NH, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, also many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Calling hours will be held on Monday December 16th from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00pm in the funeral home with cremation to follow. Private burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry.
