Edward G. Blash, Sr., 76

WORCESTER—Edward G. Blash, Sr., 76, of McKinley Road, a former steam engineer at Bay State Abrasives, Westborough, died Thursday, Dec. 12, in Saint Vincent Hospital.

His wife of 52 years, Hazel V. (Parker) Blash, died in 1999. He leaves his companion, Elise A. Lehr, 4 sons, Alvin J. Blash of Connecticut; Edward G. Blash, Jr., of Maine; Michael R. Blash of Winchendon; John M. Blash, of Worcester; 4 daughters, Dorothy T. Loader of Kentucky; Beverly A. Clark of Arizona; Carol M. Servideo of Worcester; and Joanne F. Lehr of Michigan; a brother, Francis Blash of Worcester; 2 sisters, Nellie Peterson of Worcester; and Helen Borek of Delaware; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A Sister, Ethel Butcher predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Adolph and Agnes (Gregory) Blash, and attended Worcester schools.

Mr. Blash was a Fireman First Class in the U.S. Naval Reserve, serving aboard the USS Roper during WWII. He worked at Bay State Abrasives, in Wesborough, as a steam engineer for over 30 years.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, in Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent or donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
