Salem: Ronald A. Benson, age 64 of Salem, died unexpectedly, Thursday August 9, 2007, at the NSMC / Salem Hospital. Seven years ago he was the recipient of a heart transplant which enabled Ron to live a relatively active and quality life.
Born and raised in Malden, he was the son of Bernice F. (Horsford) Benson and the late Daniel W. Benson. For many years he worked in the landscaping and tree removal field in the greater Andover area. Ron moved to Salem in 1978 and has since worked as a carpenter. Throughout his difficult medical history, he always maintained a positive attitude and was grateful for the additional years he was given. He was a member of the Lawrence B.P.O.E. (Elks).
In addition to his mother who resides in Derry, NH, he is survived by his devoted companion Carol A. (Theriault) Fournier of Salem, 2 sons: Ronald and Richard Benson, a daughter Michelle, a brother Daniel Benson of Derry, NH, 2 sisters: Janice Daigle of Derry NH & May Fournier of Hampstead, NH. He is also survived by grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be on Thursday August 16, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. in the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will precede his service on Thursday 4 to 8 pm. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mass. General Hospital, C/O Development Office, heart transplant unit, 165 Cambridge St., Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114.
