Salem: Louis J. Languirand, age 89 of Salem, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Anita G. (LeBlanc) Languirand.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Henry P. and M. Alice (Chase) Languirand. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army and served in New Guinea and the Philippines. Married to Anita while on leave in 1944, he returned to serve until October of 1945 when he returned to Salem. Louis was employed by the A.C. Lawrence Leather Co. of Peabody until its closing. He then worked in the maintenance department for Salem State College until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Ste. Anne Parish and the VFW Post 1524 both of Salem
Louis is survived by 5 daughters: Judith L. Garro of Salem, Alice M. Julien and her husband Arthur of Peabody, Carol Ann Lemelin and her husband Robert of Salem, Dianne G. Enos of Freemont, NH, Jeannette Brault of Salem. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 3 brothers: Arthur, Joseph & Albert Languirand, a sister Helen, a grandson Richard Lemelin, a great- granddaughter Tyler Braultand, 2 sons-in-law: Kenneth Enos and Leo Brault.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veteran’s Administration Hospital, 150 South Huntington Ave., Jamaica Plain 02130.
