Obituary

Mr. Robert Walker Hinman, beloved husband of the late Jane (Guild) Hinman of Andover, died at Sutton Hill Nursing Center in North Andover on Saturday, August 11, 2007, following a lengthy illness. He was 86 years old.
Born in Andover, Massachusetts, on April 8, 1921, he was a beloved son of the late George W. and Miriam (Clarke) Hinman. Mr. Hinman was a graduate of Phillips Academy, class of 1939 and Williams College, class of 1943. He had been an Executive Vice President for the Gillette Company for many years and had served the company from 1958 until his retirement in 1986. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at Williamstown, Massachusetts, on August 30, 1942 and was honorably discharged at Ft. Deven's on February 19, 1946. While in the Army he served in the 775th Army Air Force Base Unit. During his military career he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. In his spare time, Mr. Hinman enjoyed playing tennis and squash. He was also an avid baseball fan. He was also a member of the board of directors for the Andover Saving’s Bank in Andover for many years.
He was the loving father of Richard G. and his wife Emily Hinman of Kingston, Roger C. Hinman of Framingham, Douglas E. and his wife Nancy Hinman of Seekonk, Nancy M. and her husband Peter Johnson of Andover and Sally M. Hinman of Brunswick, Maine. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late G. Roger Hinman, Frederick C. Hinman and June Marques.
His funeral service was celebrated in the West Parish Church, 129 Reservation Road, ANDOVER, Wednesday, August 15, at 11 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Calling hours have been omitted. Burial was in West Parish Garden Cemetery, Andover. Arrangements were handled by the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, Andover.
