Obituary

John J. Walsh, a proud Irishman who came to the United States from County Cork, Ireland at the age of 10, and who was an 11 year resident of Salem, New Hampshire and a long time resident of Charlestown and Concord died on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at his home in Salem, N.H. following an extended illness. He was 88 years old.

John was born on January 31, 1919 in County Cork, Ireland. He moved to the Boston area at the age of 10 where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from high school there. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1943 and served during World War 2. He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Tec-4. John began working for New England Telephone Company and served in several capacities as a lineman and installer. Before he retired after 35 years of service he was involved in the telephone repairs of many major business buildings in the downtown section of Boston. John retired in 1982. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Knights of Columbus in Concord.

John is the devoted husband of 24 years to Mary (Fullerton) Walsh. He is the beloved father of Kevin Walsh and his wife Billie Jane of Concord. He is the devoted step-father of Patrick Fullerton and his wife Sandra and Edward Fullerton and his wife Helen all of Bradford. John is the loving grandfather of Megan and Cassie Walsh, Patrick, Mary, Elizabeth, Neil, Maureen and Theresa Fullerton. He is the beloved brother of Elizabeth Knudsen of Vermont, Anne Baron of Florida, Christine Farrell of Milton and the late Edward Walsh and Mary and Nora.

John's Funeral will be held on Tuesday August 14, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Monday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
