DUDLEY - Charles W. Deren, 90, of D’Alessandro Avenue, died Tuesday, August 8, in Webster Manor. His wife of 62 years, M. Bernice “Pat” Deren, died May 25.
He leaves a sister, Geraldine Wieloch of Dudley; a daughter-in-law, Juanita Phillips of Worcester; 3 grandchildren, Derek, Dustin and Jana Deren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald D. Deren in 1996, and by 8 of his siblings, Margaret, Sister Mary Simplicia, Stanislaus, Peter, Ignatius, Bernice, Mary and Jack.
He was born and raised in Webster, a son of Joseph and Teresa (Noga) Deren.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Deren owned Deren Construction Company. He built many houses in the area.
He was a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Church, the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post #184 and the Polish National Alliance. He was a life member of the Webster Lodge of Elks #1466. He served as a sewer commissioner in Dudley for many years. He enjoyed golfing and formerly belonged to the Nichols College Golf Club.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, August 14, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide the military honors. Burial will be private. A calling period will be from 8:15 to 9:15 AM Tuesday, August 14, in the funeral home.
