Obituary

Fernande E. Brown, 94, of Manchester died August 8, 2007 at the Mount Carmel Nursing home after a period of declining health.

She was born in St. Cyrille de Wendover, Quebec on December 12, 1912 and was the daughter of J. Donat and Odila Adeline (Chandonnet) Proulx .

She moved to the United States at the age of 11 and settled in Manchester NH. She attended Bakersville Elementary School where she learned to speak English, then later went to work to help her family.

She married David Brown at St. Anthony Church in Manchester on May 31, 1937. He died in 1987.

Mrs. Brown worked in the shoe industry and made doll clothes for the J.R. Langley Company. Her favorite job was as a lingerie clerk in the Jordan Marsh store in Bedford.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church and was a member of Les Dames de Ste. Anne at that parish. She was active at the Association Canado Americaine, the Catholic War Veterans, the Precious Blood Monastery and Les Coeurs Joyeux.

Mrs. Brown enjoyed cooking, playing cribbage, whist, rummy and hand and foot. She was an accomplished seamstress and had traveled extensively through out the United States and Europe.

IN HER LIFE: The family includes two daughters, Mrs. John (Suzanne) Hartshorn of Manchester and Mrs. Gerald (Denise) Pare of Houston, TX; two grandsons, Christian Hartshorn of Hopkinton and Karl Pare of Missoula, Montana and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was grateful for the care she received from the staff at Mt. Carmel Nursing Home.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday August 11, 2007 at St. Anthony Church, 172 Belmont St., Manchester. Committal prayers followed in the chapel of St. Augustin Cemetery, So. Beech St., Manchester.
