Obituary

Dorothy D. (Devoll) Gardner, 91, of Mattapoisett died Saturday December 7, 2002 suddenly at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens, South Carolina while visiting relatives. She was the wife of the late George O. Gardner, Jr.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late William and Charlotte (Higham) Devoll, she lived in New Bedford and Mattapoisett for most of her life.

She was a member of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church.

Mrs. Gardner was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mattapoisett Women's Club. She was a graduate of the House in the Pines School in Norton and the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.

Survivors include a son, George O. Gardner III and his wife Karen of Acton; a daughter, Louise Green and her husband Edward of Sunset, South Carolina; 2 grandchildren, Sarah Goerges and her husband Claus of Marion and George O. Gardner IV and his wife Donna of Fitchburg; 4 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters-in-law, Jeanette Langlois and Phyllis Dixon , both of Dartmouth.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday December 12, 2002 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett. Burial in Rural Cemetery in New Bedford will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnnycake Hill, New Bedford, MA 02740 or to Cannon Memorial Hospital, P.O. Box 188, Pickens, SC 29671.
