Leo C. Downing of Maine, formerly of Reading passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Southern Maine Medical Center. He was 75 years of age.
Born in Medford, Leo was the loving son of the late Leo D. Downing and Eileen (Kenney) Downing. Leo was a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be sorely missed.
Leo was a dedicated employee for the United States Postal Service in Reading for 36 years. He was a loyal member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. Leo was a proud United States Air Force Veteran, serving our country during the Korean War. He enjoyed spending time at the Malden Irish American Club.
Leo was the beloved husband of Judith (Robertson) Downing. He was the devoted father of Leo C. Downing Jr. and his wife Mary, Charlene L. Trudeau, Laurel A. Harris and her husband Bill, Brian R. Wheaton, David P. Wheaton and his wife Carol, and Paul E. Wheaton and his wife Elaina. Leo was the cherished grandfather of 13 and great grandfather of 3. He was the dear brother of Robert Downing and his wife Jacque, Mary Verdelli, and the late Eleanor Basler and Carol Northrop. Leo was the former husband of the late Mary (Blake) Downing. He was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Joseph Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING Monday at 8am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Leo’s life in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St. Reading at 9am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours, Sunday 3-7pm. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot on Linden St. Interment Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
