Robert Theodore Hurlburt, 87 formerly of Franklin died August 2 in Georgia, Vermont. He was the husband of the late Katherine (Leclair) Hurlburt who died March 18, 2006.
Born in Halifax Nova Scotia, October 14, 1925 the son of the late Medrich and Anne (Benedict) Hurlburt, Mr. Hurlburt had lived in Franklin for many years prior to moving to Vermont to live with his niece following his wife’s death.
Mr. Hurlburt had been a carpenter/painter and for many years worked in the Maintenance Department of Milford Regional Hospital.
After his retirement, he could be found at area craft shows with his woodworking items. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, gardening, the Red Sox and feeding God’s little creatures.
Mr. Hurlburt served in the Army during World War II attaining the rank of Sergeant. Following his discharge from the Army in September of 1945, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served until 1952 when he was discharged as a Sergeant.
Always a gentleman, he passed away with dignity and grace, doing it his way to the end.
He is survived by his niece, Shelley Bonnett and her husband, Gene of Georgia, Vermont, with whom he lived. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews through out the United States and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was the brother of the late Ralph Hurlburt, Grace Fletcher, Ann Fletcher, Phyllis Heuder, Mable Nicholson, Myrtle Wentzel and Madeline “Maddy” Bourgeois.
His funeral will be held on Monday August 6 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin 131 Main St., Franklin at 8:15 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church in Franklin at 9:00 a.m.
Burial will be on Monday in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 11:30 a.m.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 3-7 p.m.
