Obituary


MYSTIC: George D. Selden, 14 Brandon Lane, Mystic, died peacefully July 30th at New England Baptist Hospital, Boston MA He is survived by his loving wife Patricia (Fitz-Patrick) Selden. George was born in Buffalo, NY on August 24, 1924, and moved in early childhood to Erie, PA.

He was the son of George D. Selden, Sr., and Zella (Boynton) Selden. He was educated in Erie, PA and was a graduate of Deerfield Academy and Yale University, Class of 1945W. He served in World War II as a pilot in the Navy.

He married Constance Bogardus and they had five children. He moved to Stonington, CT after her demise, and three years later married Patricia (Fitz-Patrick) Jenkins. He is survived by his five children: George Dudley Selden III (Lee) of Fort Myers FL; Thomas Bogardus Selden (Tom) and his wife Carol of Palmetto, FL; Mary Hughes of Richmond, VA; Samuel Spencer Selden (Sam) and his wife Jacqueline of Overland Park, KS; Christian Edward Detmold Selden (Chris) and his wife Linda of Wake Forest, NC; and his two step-children, Timothy Jenkins (Tim) and his wife Linda of Midlothian, VA, and Christine Johnson (Fifi) of Park City, UT, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

George loved his life in Stonington and served his community by running the Pequots tennis players, the Mello Fellows lunch group and the Tue-Fris. He was the President of the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Connecticut and founded the Yunchers, comprised of many Yale graduates who met on a regular basis and featured speakers on topics of interest. He was instrumental in fostering the Friends of Franklin which helped support the Franklin Papers Collection at Yale.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 24 at 11:00am at Calvary Church, Stonington. In lieu of flowers, contributions in George's memory may be made to the Stonington Free Library, Post Office Box 232, Stonington CT 06378.
