Hollis M. Lilly
...worked at M.I.T. and Harvard; 36
Somerville - Hollis M. Lilly, age 36, an employee of two of Boston’s most prestigious
universities, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 28, from surgical complications of a leg injury
sustained in early July.
He was born in Lowell on August 31, 1970, a son of Roberta L. (James) Lilly of Lowell and the
late Mitchell Lilly who died in 1996. He was raised in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High
School. He went on to graduate Boston University in 1994.
He began his career at Harvard University, in the Registrars Office, where he worked for ten
years. He moved to Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Registrars Office six years ago.
He loved coaching gymnastics, the Olympics, and had attended several Olympic trials. He also
enjoyed volleyball, performing at comedy clubs, and singing Karaoke.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Jeremiah J. Lilly and his wife
Maria-Dawn (Linsley) of Tyngsboro; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Melody J. Barlay and her
husband Greg of Haverhill, Hope A. Lilly of Albany, NY; his maternal grandparents, Richard and
Frances (Demers) James of Nashua, NH; two nephews, Jylen Burden of Albany, NY, and
Mitchell Barlay of Haverhill; many aunts, uncles, and cousins including his aunt Linda James of
Chelmsford, and dearest cousin, Iris Hill of Lowell.

His funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 4, in the funeral home. Burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery.
