BRIDGEWATER — Gerard J. Gauthier, 90, of Bridgewater died Thursday at Life Care Center in West Bridgewater. He was the husband of Mary (Cruz) Gauthier.
Born and raised in Middleboro, he was a son of the late Elzear and Mary (Joyce) Gauthier.
Mr. Gauthier served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a first sergeant.
He was a welter at Lucey Shoe in Bridgewater for 33 years.
Mr. Gauthier was a 70 year member of the Knights of Columbus No. 488 and a member of the 49ers Club, both in Bridgewater.
He was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Bridgewater for many years.
Mr. Gauthier was a Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed bocce and bowling.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by two sons, Gerard E. “Jay” Gauthier of Taunton and Kenneth P. Gauthier of Duluth, Ga.; his daughter, Karen Koss of Taunton; a brother, Leo Gauthier of Middleboro; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was also father of the late David K. Gauthier and brother to the late William, James, Edward, Frederick and Alfred Gauthier and Gertrude Cronin.
His funeral will be held at 8:15 a.m. Monday from Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater, followed by a funeral Mass 9 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Burial will be in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Bridgewater.
Visiting hours are on Sunday from 4-7 p.m.
