GLOUCESTER: Prescott E. Chick, 91, of High Street, Lanesville, died Thursday evening, July 26, 2007, in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Lois R. (Feener) Chick.
Born in Gloucester on February 24, 1916, he was the son of the late Eugene M. and Blanche E. (Mitchell) Chick. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and had attended Gloucester public schools.
Mr. Chick was employed as a serviceman for many years for the former S.R. Harvey Oil Company. He then worked for the Gloucester school system as a custodian at the Ralph B. O’Maley Middle School until his retirement.
He had been an active member of the Lanesville Congregational Church for many years. Prescott was a well-liked man with a kind and gentle nature. Enjoying the simple pleasures of life, he took pride in dressing well and was very pleased to be named the town’s best dressed man several years. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed greatly.
In addition to his wife of sixty-seven years, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Dennis V. Whaley and a granddaughter, Heather L. Whaley, who was the light of his life, all of Gloucester, three sisters, Marilyn J. Sears, Pauline wife of Donald Bortle and Agnes Cameron. He also leaves three sisters-in-law, Trudie Chick, Marion Tingley, Phyllis Burnham, a brother-in-law, Gene Feener and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Constance Coleman and Marjorie Connelly and two brothers, Lester Chick and Frank O. Chick.
His funeral service will be held in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Lanesville on Monday morning at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
