Ruth H. Barrows, 97, passed away on July 26, 2007 at the Mary Elizabeth Convalescent Center in Mystic. She was the widow of Bertram W. Barrows who predeceased her in 1991.
Ruth was born in Quincy, MA on January 11, 1910 to the late Albert and Nellie Hayden. She was a 1928 graduate of Quincy High and graduated from The College of Practical Arts and Letters of Boston University in 1932. She was the President of the Orchestra of P.A.L. where she played the piano.
Ruth worked as a secretary at Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY for many years. She was a member of the Vega Chapter 98 of the Order of Eastern Star in Potsdam where she was the musician. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Potsdam where she was the Sunday school pianist. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Gales Ferry CT where she was a great supporter of the music program.
She will be greatly missed by her son Porter Barrows and his wife Jan Barrows of Castle Rock, CO; and her daughter, Judith Suplicki and her husband Edward Suplicki of Mystic. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Tara Stevens and her husband Terry of Aurora, CO; Holly Barrows of Centennial, CO, Sean Barrows of Parker, CO, Elaine Lettiere and her husband Daniel Lettiere of Mystic and Pamela Suplicki of Groton; her great grandchildren, Natalie and Shannon Stevens, Hayden Barrows, and Anna Lettiere.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Gales Ferry CT on Wednesday, August 1st at 7pm. Burial will precede at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery in Quincy, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Recreational Services at Mary Elizabeth Convalescent Center, 28 Broadway, Mystic CT 06355 or the Music Department at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Rte. 12, Gales Ferry.
