Rita F. Callahan, age 83, a life long resident of Woburn died early Thursday morning, July 26th, at the Woburn Nursing Center. She was the beloved daughter of the late William P. and Elizabeth (Mulhern) Callahan.
Rita was a 1941 graduate of St. Charles High School where she was an outstanding athlete and was a member of the girls basketball team. She continued that athleticism throughout her life as an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Women's Golf League here in Woburn.
Rita worked for many years with different companies as a administrative secretary. She enjoyed traveling and together with her twin sister they would take many trips to Ireland and various places around the world. Rita enjoyed reading and writing poetry. She also enjoyed following local sports teams especially the Boston Red Sox.
In addition to her late parents, Rita is predeceased by her brother, Robert J. Callahan. She is survived by her twin sister, Mary E. Callahan of Woburn, Brothers, Charles P. Callahan of Woburn and William P. Callahan of Prince Edward Island. She is also survived by fourteen loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church 280 Main St. Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Rita's memory to the Alzheimer's Assoc., MA Chapter, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472.
