Mr. Carmelo ‘Lelo’ Montalvo age 63 of Salem, died Wednesday morning, July 25, 2007, at the NSMC / Salem Hospital following a long illness. He was the husband of Ana Gonzalez.
Born in February of 1944 in Isabela, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Juan Jose Montalvo and Gloria E. Martinez. As a child, he loved playing with and teasing his brothers and sisters, most of whom he could out-run.
At the age of 15 he moved to Newark, NJ to live with his grandmother and uncles. In 1967 he met and married Ana, the love of his life. Lelo was passionately devoted to his wife, his wonderful daughters and loving grandchildren.
Prior to his illness, Mr. Montalvo was employed in the leather tanning industry of Peabody.
Carmelo was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish and was currently a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish of Salem.
In addition to his wife Ana, he is survived by 2 daughters: Carmen Garcia of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Marisol Montalvo Garcia of Taunton, MA, 4 sisters: Josefina Montalvo of Newark, NJ, Anatalia Montalvo of Orlando, FL, Rosa Montalvo & Aniseta Montalvo both of Moca, P.R., 3 brothers: Wilfredo Montalvo of Austin, TX, Santos Montalvo of El Tuque, P. R., Silvio Soto of Cleveland, OH. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Yesenia, Juan, Aisha, Destiny, Erika, Nana, Erick and Kiki, a great-grandson Jeizel and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be on Saturday, July 28, 2007, at 10:30 am from the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., Salem, followed by his funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Boulevard Salem at 11 am. Visiting hours will precede his funeral from 9 am to 10:30 am. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
