Henry L. “Blackie” Charrette, 84, formerly of East School St., Woonsocket, died Monday at Oakland Grove Health Center. He was the husband of the late Pearl H. (Parras) Charrette.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late William and Maria (Rinfrette) Charrette. He was a resident of Woonsocket for most of his life.
Mr. Charrette served in the US Army during WWII.
Mr. Charrette was the owner and cook of the former Blackie’s Diner, on South Main St., in Woonsocket for many years. He also worked as the chef manager at the Hallworth House in Providence, before retiring in 1984.
Mr. Charrette was a member of the Woonsocket BPOE #850, the Marchegiano Club, the VFW Post 6342, and the St. Joseph Veterans. He enjoyed dancing.
He is survived by daughter, Gail Ducharme, and her husband Roger, of Woonsocket, three grandchildren, Keith Ducharme, Sarah Ducharme, and Rebecca Ducharme, all of Woonsocket. He was the brother of the late William Jr., Theodore, Leon, Joseph, and Roger Charrette, and Rose Gardner, Irene Charrette, and Rita Laplante. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:00 am in St. Theresa’s Church, Rathbun St., Blackstone. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are omitted.
