John L. Cobb, 83, of Irwin County, died Tuesday, July 24 at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 26, in the Evergreen Cemetery, with Rev. Lester Anthony officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Cobb was born November 22, 1923, in Cook County, to the late Lewis R. and Pearlie Lashley Cobb. He was a retired brick mason, having worked for Mann Construction. Mr. Cobb lived in the community most of his life. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Cobb was an avid musician who loved country and gospel music and could play most any stringed instrument by ear. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and together with Davis Sims formed the first sky diving team in Fitzgerald in the 1960’s. He also served as a company commandant with the Civil Air Patrol.
Mr. Cobb is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra & Gary Law of Fitzgerald and Brenda & Fred McIntyre of Irwinville as well as 4 grandchildren, Jeff Law, Warner Robins, Starlet Law, Fitzgerald, Mecca Reeves, Arp community and Matthew McIntyre of Irwinville. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters.
