Mr. Val “Granddaddy” Stanley Harvey was a native of Fremont, NC, born March 1st, 1938. He was the “baby boy” of nine children, born to the late James Henry Harvey and Katie Battle Harvey. On Tuesday, July 24, 2007 God called Val home.
He accepted Christ and joined Elm Grove Disciple Church, of Pikeville, NC. He later joined Moulton Heights Missionary Baptist Church.
Val attended schools in Fremont, NC through high school. He continued his education while in the United States Army, and as a civilian, receiving numerous degrees including degrees in Engineering and Computer Science fields. Val was always eager to learn.
Val served 24 years of active duty in the United States Army, and 28 years of civil service with the United States Government, working at LTPO. In 2005, he received his 50 years of service pin under the leadership of General Pillsbury.
He leaves a legacy of love to his wife, Mable, six children; Keith (Susie) of Carson, CA, Sandra of Huntsville, AL, Daryl (Betty) of Wake Village, Texas, Evette (Michael) of Goldsboro, NC, Fredrick and Cynthia both of Huntsville, AL, eight grandchildren; Brandi, Christopher, Christy, Gerard, Theresa, Kimberly, Natasha, and Katrina, four great-grandchildren; “GG’s “Big Dog” Christopher “Mekhi,” Na’jah, Aaliyah, and Nasiya “Annie,” two brothers; Eugene Harvey (Ellen) of Chula Vista, CA, and William Harvey (Pam) of Fremont, NC, four sisters; Delores Spells and Muriel Dickerson, both of Fremont, NC, Doris Waker (Joe) of McClellanville, SC, and Sophia Boyette of Suitland, MD, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adoptive grandchildren, and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Harvey will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday from the Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church wtih Pastor Tracey Seltzer officiating. Interment will be in Valley View Memorial Gardens. The Harvey Family will receive visitors and friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday from the funeral home. The remains of Mr. Harvery will be in the church one hour prior to funeral time.
