Catherine M. "Kay" Durant, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Monday July 23, 2007 at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home in Chelsea following an extended illness. She was 84 years old.
Kay was born in Boston on June 1, 1923. She grew up in Charlestown and attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. Kay enlisted into the United States Navy in 1943. She served during World War 2 and was discharged on January 8, 1946 as a Specialist Third Class. Kay worked for over 20 years as a secretery for Rice, Hurd & Bigelow, a Financial Advisor company in Boston. She was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association and The Charlestown American Legion Post # 26.
Kay is the beloved daughter of the late John and Marie (Quirk) Durant. She is the beloved sister of the late John, James, Marie, Martin, Eddie Durant, Margaret Downey and Winifred Honohan. She is the loving aunt of Marie LaBella, Margie Minichiello, John and Martin Durant Jr., David and James Honohan and the late Claire DeConinck.
Kay's Funeral will be held on Thursday July 26, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Kay will be held on Wednesday July 25, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
