Stanley Pokornicki, 79, of New Bedford died December 6, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Genowefa (Ankiewicz) Pokornicki,and the son of the late Antone and Frances (Rusczyk) Pokornicki.
Mr. Pokornicki was born in New Bedford and had lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Hedwig Church.
Mr. Pokornicki was formerly employed as a machinist at J.C. Rhode P.C.I. for 43 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the destroyer escort USS Roche as a chief petty officer and also aboard the L.S.T. (landing ship tanks) in the Asiatic - Pacific Theater.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Stanley Pokornicki, Jr. of New Bedford and Steven Pokornicki, and his wife Pamela, of Livonia, Michigan; a granddaughter, Jessica Pokornicki; 2 sisters, Mary Mietus and Josephine Iwanicki, both of Everett, MA, and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Sophie Sawicki.
