Middletown, RI - George W. Lawrence, Jr., 91, of Tiverton, RI passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 12, 2007 at John Clarke Nursing Center. He was the husband of Ariel F. (Savaria) Lawrence for 72 years.
Born in Wareham, MA, a son of the late George W. Lawrence, Sr. and the late Mildred (Ellis) Lawrence, he had lived in Tiverton and Little Compton for most of his life and had also lived in Connecticut for a short time.
A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Army. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was a superintendent of construction for Gamino and Cardi of Providence, specializing in bridges and overpasses and he was also a land surveyor. Mr. Lawrence was a member of the First Baptist “Old Stone” Church, Tiverton. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Including his wife, he is survived by a son: James W. Lawrence of Fairhaven; 3 daughters: Gail McHugh of Hudson, FL, Shirley F. Taber of Tiverton and Nancy A. Lawrence of TX; a brother: Raymond Lawrence of Marion; a sister: Muriel Washburn of S. Carver; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Irving Lawrence.
