Martin J. Cunniff of Medford died suddenly at his home. He was 78.Born and raised in Jamaica Plain, Marty lived in Medford for the past 50 years.
During World War II, Mr. Cunniff served with the US Army, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in combat throughout Germany and Central Europe.
After the war, Marty worked with the MBTA for 40 years, serving in many capacities at the Charlestown car yards.
Marty was an avid sports fan and dedicated family man.
He was the husband of the late Mary (Rando) Cunniff
He is survived by his sons: Martin Cunniff, Jr, and his wife Joyce, Kevin Cunniff and his wife Allison, Michael Cunniff and his wife Mary; two daughters: Terri Di Mella and her husband Mike, and Nancy Aldrich and her husband Scott.
He leaves three sisters: Mary Burke, Irene Kerr, Catherine Beggan; two brothers: John Cunniff, James Cunniff
He was the loving grandfather of Jennifer, Marty, III, Kerri, Kevin, Jr., PJ, Jenna, Michael, Lauren, Courtney, Michael, Scott, Jr., Brian, Timmy and the late Nicky DiMella
Relatives and friends may visit Sunday from 3 thru 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford.
His funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, Monday at 9 am.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
