Sarah E. ( Irwin ) Ledin, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, passed away on Tuesday July 17, 2007 at The Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was 90 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late Chester A. Ledin.
Born December 17, 1916 in Watertown, Massachusetts, she was a daughter to the late Arthur H. Irwin and Bessie (Stockwell) Irwin. She attended Watertown and Stoughton Public Schools and was a 1934 graduate of Stoughton High School.
Mrs. Ledin was employed for many years as an Administrative Assistant and Secretary at the Belcher Malleable Iron Company at Furnace Village in South Easton, Massachusetts.
Mrs. Ledin was also a very active and dedicated member of The First Congregational Church of Stoughton. She served many years as Secretary, Search Committee Member, and was very involved with both The Church Choir and The Wedded Ring. She was also an active organizer and fundraiser for the churches fairs. Her other hobbies included, crocheting, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, reading and watching sports, especially tennis, golf and poker playing. Mrs. Ledin was very talented when it came to crafts and she was able to manufacture by hand, various types of snowflakes for the Christmas season. Many people relied on her talents when it came time to purchase a snowflake ornament for their Christmas tree.
She is survived by her children, Lawrence C. “Larry” Ledin and his wife Ann of Stoughton, Jon C. Ledin and his wife Florentina of Stoughton, Geoffrey L. Ledin and his wife Laurie of Sunbury, Ohio and Deborah A. Fitzgerald and her husband Stephen of Walpole. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. She was preceaded in death by her three brothers, Arthur Irwin, Basil Irwin and Ira Irwin. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews and friends.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday July 21, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. from The First Congregational Church of Stoughton, United Church of Christ, 76 Pierce Street, Stoughton. The Pastor Emeritus Reverend Ernest O. Geigis, officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations to The First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, C/O The Grace Notes Handbell Choir, 76 Pierce Street, Stoughton, MA 02072 in Sarah’s memory, would be appreciated.
Visiting hours to which relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend will be held on Friday July 20, 2007 from 4 – 8 P.M. in The Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton.
