Carroll, of Brockton, December 5, 2002, Mary “Shirley” (Walker) Carroll, 75 years. Wife of the late Joseph E. Carroll, Mother of Christopher M. and his wife Christine of Brockton, Gerard J. and his wife Brenda of Brockton, Susan Prisco and her husband Michael of Middleboro, Mimi Keene and her husband Michael of Osterville, Ruth Card and her husband Michael of Bridgewater, Joan Carroll of Brockton, Ellen Mahoney and her husband Shawn of Osterville, Katie Carroll of Florida, Irene Eyssallenne and her husband Max of Brockton and Blanche McCarthy and her husband Robert of W. Bridgewater.

Funeral from the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Tuesday at 8am. Funeral Mass in St. Colman Church at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting Hours Monday 4-8 pm. Donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society 1115 W. Chestnut St. #301, Brockton, MA 02301.

Obituary

Mrs. Carroll died Thursday evening at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Norwood, she was the daughter of the late Wallace and Blanche M. (Campbell) Walker. She was raised in Walpole and graduated from Walpole High School Class of 1945. She has been a resident of Brockton since 1958.

She had been employed at Brockton Hospital for 13 years in the Housekeeping and Sterilization departments, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Scribblers Club in Brockton and was a contributor to the Boston Globe Confidential Chat under the name Golden Patches.

She was a longtime communicant of St. Colman Church where she was a member of the Ladies Sodality, CCD teacher and had been a Eucharistic Minister visiting shut ins and patients at the Embassy House Nursing Home.

Shirley will be remembered by many for riding her bicycle around Brockton doing errands with her dog Fluffy. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and baking.

She is survived by her 2 sons and 8 daughters as above, 28 grandchildren, 1 brother James J. Walker of S. Dennis, and 4 sisters Vivian Baker of S. Yarmouth, Blanche Mucciarone, of Newton, Charlotte Alger of Franklin, Barbara Fitzgibbons of E. Walpole and the late Phyllis Valade and Wallace Walker.
