Lucile G. (Andrews) Craig, 83, died Monday, July 16th at her home with her family at her bedside. She and her husband Robert Craig of Abington recently observed their 62nd year of marriage.
She was born on her family homestead in North Paris, ME and was a graduate of West Paris High School and moved to Portland, ME to attend Business College. Shortly after their marriage, she and her husband settled in Abington, living in the same house until her death.
While raising her two daughters, she assisted her husband in his business and was active in the women’s work of the church. She served as the church clerk of the First Baptist Church of Abington, for 35 years and served a term as president of the American Baptist Churches of MA, after her term as president of the American Baptist Women of MA. She was a past president of the Abington VNA and was active in the development of the “Good Friday Walk”. In 2001 she was honored as Baptist Woman of the Year, by the Boston Baptist Social Union.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert C. Craig of Abington, her daughters, Anne E. Manna and her husband Anthony of Hanover and Shirley J.C. Clesson and her husband Darrell of MO, her grandson Robert A. Manna of PA.; her brothers and a sister, Harold Andrews, Earl Andrews, Herbert Andrews and Florence Whynot.
Her visiting hours will be on Thursday July 19th 4-8 P.M. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street, (Route 58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman. A memorial service will be held on August 5th in the First Baptist Church of Abington, Abington, MA. Interment will be in the family cemetery in North Paris, Maine at a later date.
