Mrs. Iona Hemphill age 92, formerly of McCaysville, GA, passed away in the Yalobusha County Nursing Home on Monday, July 16, 2007. Mrs. Hemphill moved to Water Valley several years ago to be near her daughter, Dorris Crawford. She has been in the Nursing home most of that time. The daughter of Walton and Harriett McCeldry Owenby she was born in Morgantown, GA. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in McCaysville, GA and was a retired dress shop owner.
Surviving Mrs. Hemphill are; two daughters, Dorris H. Crawford of Water Valley, MS and Joanne H. Schonborn of Waxhaw, NC; two sisters, Iris Reece of Marrietta, GA and Ruth Anderson of Chatsworth, GA; three brothers, Roy Owenby of Mineral Bluff, GA, Charles Owenby of Ellijay, GA and James Owenby of Marrietta, GA; five grandchildren, Lori Williamson, Lynn Crawford, Darrell Crawford, Jeff Schonborn and Carman Banham; also she leaves nine great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation Thursday, July 19, 2007 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Finch Funeral Home in McCaysville, GA. Graveside service for Mrs. Hemphill are in Copper Ridge Memorial Gardens, McCaysville, GA at 11:00 AM on Friday,July 20, 2007 with Reverend Raymond Aven presiding.
