Joseph Steven Carter, 79, of New Bedford died July 17, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
He was the husband of Mary E. (Lecuyer) Carter, with whom he shared 32 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Frederick J. and Lillian C. (McHugh) Carter, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Carter was formerly employed by Morse Cutting Tools for 31 years. After his retirement he worked for Market Ministries and Coastline Elderly Services as a financial advisor.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Greenland. He was a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Carter was a graduate of the Campbell Business School. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Mary and reading his Bible. He made an impression on all who knew and loved him and he will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Susan Benoit, and her husband René, of Acushnet, and Carol Anctil, and her husband Richard, of Marston Mills; a brother, George E. Carter of Upton; two sisters, Eileen Armstrong of Florida and Edith Lima and her husband Bob of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Brian, Jay, Faith, Joel and Stephen; his lifelong friend, James Camaioni; and 21 nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Frederick J. Carter and Patricia Wood.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 9 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene, 284 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
