Carl Garofano, 91

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Carmen J. “Carl” Garofano, 91, a lifelong resident of Mansfield died unexpectedly on Tuesday July 17, 2007 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA.
Born in Mansfield, MA on March 13, 1916 he was a loving son of the late Angelo and Maria (Musto) Garofano.
Educated in Mansfield schools he was a 1934 graduate of Mansfield High School. He went on to become a 1938 graduate of Harvard University where he graduated Cum Laude. He served in the United States Army during WWII and had received numerous awards and citations.
Mr. Garofano had worked in various capacities for The Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company in Boston. He retired after 30 years of faithful service.
A lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield he was also a member and former Grand Knight of the George C. Shields Council Knights of Columbus in Mansfield.
An accomplished bowler and bridge player Carl also enjoyed gardening and meticulously maintaining his yard.
He was the dear brother of Theresa Garofano and Lena Garofano both of Mansfield and the late Louise E. Garofano and Angelina M. Garofano. Also surviving are many cousins.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday July 20th at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday July 19th from 4-7 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Carl’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to St. Mary’s Parish 330 Pratt St. Mansfield, MA 02048.
