Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday at 10am. Funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church at 11am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Attorney James M. McCormick 52 years of Brockton died Saturday at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Susan C. (Ruggiero) McCormick. Mr. McCormick was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late James M. and Alice E. (Bradshaw) McCormick and remained a lifelong resident of the city. He was a 1972 graduate of Brockton High School, received his bachelor degree for Bridgewater State College in 1976 and was awarded his Juris Doctorate from New England School of Law in 1980. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1980 and was sworn before the US Supreme Court in 1982 in Washington, DC.
At the time of his illness, Mr. McCormick was Assistant City Solicitor for the City of Brockton. He had been appointed to the position by Mayors Harrington, Yunits and Pitaro. He had also been the attorney for the License Commission. He was a proud Brocktonian and loved working for the city.
He had begun practicing law with the firm of Copeland, Connelly and McCormick and then had his own practice for ten years specializing in family law. He had worked his way through school by working at Frasers, Gilchrist and Sears Department Stores.
Mr. McCormick was a member of the Plymouth County Bar Association, a member of Southeastern Massachusetts Legal Services and member and past president of the school board of St. Casimir School. He had been a coach for Brockton Youth Soccer and West Little League. He enjoyed fishing, following sports and was an avid reader especially history. He loved animals and often took in strays.
Mr. McCormick will be remembered as a fun and easy going man with a quick wit and big heart.
He had been a communicant St Patrick and St. Casimir Churches
He is survived his wife Susan C. (Ruggiero) McCormick, a son and daughter James M. McCormick, IV and Susanne A. McCormick both of Brockton. He was the brother of Margaret L. “Peg” McCormick of Brockton and Michael F. McCormick of Michigan.
