O. Conrad “Connie” Lajoie, 74 of Wareham, formerly of Mansfield and Norton, died on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at the Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of Patricia M. (Hall) Lajoie.
Born in Cambrige, MA on January 17, 1933 he was the son of the late Omer A. LaJoie
and the late Louise (Beaulieu) Lajoie – Dupee.
He grew up in Norton, was educated in Norton Schools and had attended the former Attleboro Trade School. Mr. Lajoie was a self employed plumber having owned the O. Conrad Lajoie Plumbing Company in Mansfield for many years before retiring and was also, a plumbing and gas inspector for the town of Mansfield for over 30 years.
A Communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, Connie was an honorary life member of the Mansfield Lodge of Elks to which he belonged for the last 18 years.
He was a past Trustee and a former “Elk of the Year”. He was also a member of the Mansfield Emblem Club. He was a member of the South Shore Plumbing Inspectors Association and was a former member of the Mansfield Citizen’s Scholarship Foundation.
Connie was involved in auto racing for over 50 years at both local and National levels. To this day, he still holds the record set in 1974 at Seekonk Speedway for the all time most wins as a race car owner. He made many friendships that lasted a life time
In the NASCAR community.
His other hobbies included farming, gardening, raising animals and shell fishing. Mr. Lajoie had lived in Wareham for the last 2 years and was formerly of Mansfield and Norton for most of his life.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son Michael C. Lajoie of Marlborough, Three sisters; Jeanette White of Taunton, Doris Upton of Jaffrey New Hampshire, and CarolAnn Almeida of Westport. Also survived by three Grandchildren; Shawn, Caitlyn, and Joshua as well as many nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 18th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield
Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, Connie’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to either Hudner Oncology, Care of: St. Anne’s Hospital, 795 Middle Street, Fall River, MA 02721 or to the Citizens Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 23 Mansfield, MA 02048.
