WORCESTER___Joseph L. Brazauskas, 90, of Notre Dame du Lac, 559 Plantation Street, a former longtime Shrewsbury resident, died Thursday July 12 in Notre Dame du Lac Long Term Care Center. His wife of 46 years, Lucy G. (Saviskas) Brazauskas died in 1994.
He leaves two sons, Joseph A. Brazauskas and his spouse Pamela of Shrewsbury and Michael J. Brazauskas and his spouse Ellen of Alpine, NY, a daughter, Christine L. Brazauskas and her spouse Nancy Madore of Worcester; a sister, Rita M. Brazauskas of Worcester; four grandchildren, Joseph A. Brazauskas, Jr, Katherine Brazauskas, Sarah Romanelli and Laura Brazauskas and several nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, a son of Joseph and Mary (Dranginas) Brazauskas and lived 38 years in Shrewsbury before returning to Worcester 5 years ago.
Mr. Brazauskas was a civil engineer 20 years for the Worcester County Engineering Dept., and retired in 1990. Previously, he worked for 25 years for the U.S. Steel Co. He was also a notary public, a licensed real estate broker and was a reserve deputy for the Worcester County Sheriffs Dept. He graduated from Marianapolis Preparatory School in Thompson, CT., and attended Northeastern University School of Engineering and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Joseph was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and was a Sgt. with the 1119th Military Police Co. in Central Europe and the Rhineland. He was involved in scouting for 23 years and was a cub scoutmaster for Pack 76 and boy scoutmaster for Troop 76 and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was an outdoorsman belonging to many local and regional sportsmans clubs. He was a member and served as president of the Lithuanian Social Club, was a member of American Legion Post 328, Shrewsbury, Knights of Lithuania Council 26, was a member of St. Casimir Church and the former Lithuanian War Veterans Organization.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday July 17 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours in the funeral home are Monday July 16 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Members of Knights of Lithuania Council 26 will meet at 6:00 p.m. during calling hours to conduct their ritual.
