Joseph B. Faria, age 90, of Bark St., Swansea. Husband of Ruth (Phillips)Faria. Son of the late Manuel Botelho Faria and Guilhermina (Costa) Faria. Passed away in Fall River July 13, 2007. Born in Taunton, MA and a life long resident of Swansea. He retired from R.I.C.O. as a Tool & Dye Maker in Bristol, RI, previously he worked at Firestone. He was a member of the American Legion Post #303 Swansea & Fall River Looms Up Pigeon Club, Countryside Loft. He was a veteran of WW II Merchant Marine service, serving aboard the SS Livingston August 16, 1944 to December 5, 1944 and from October 20, 1944 to November 4, 1944 in Cherboung, France. He also served on the SS Sweepstakes from January 23, 1945 to March 22, 1945 and in LeHavre and Rouen, France from Feburary 6, 1945 to February 18, 1945. He later served on the SS Sweepstakes from March 23, 1945 to May 15, 1945 and in LeHarve, France from April 19, 1945 to April 27, 1945. He received the following decorations: Merchant Marine Emblem, Pacific War Zone Bar, Victory Medal, Presidential Testimonial Letter, Combat Bar, Atlantic War Zone Bar, Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Bar and the Honorable Service Button.
Besides his wife of Swansea, he is survived by 5 Children: Claire Botelho of Charlotte, NC, Lorraine Morrow of Swansea, Helen Tucker of New Bedford, Robert Faria and Joan Areias of Swansea; 5 Grandchildren: Robert Botelho, John Jason Novo, Sharon Botelho, Jessica Silvia & Micheal Faria; 2 Great Grandsons: Nicholas and Justin Botelho; 4 Sisters: Mary Mello of Dartmouth, Silvina Teixeira and Margaret Furtado of Somerset and Alexandria Viveiros of Rehoboth. Several nieces & nephews. He was also brother of the late Manuel & John Faria & Mary C. Pacheco.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home,1521 N. Main St. Tuesday with a funeral service in the funeral home at 9AM. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery.
