James K. McGill Jr. of Dover and Mattapoisett died on Thursday July 12th at the Metrowest Medical Center in Natick. He was 78 years old. A lifelong resident of Dover, Mr. McGill was a US Army World War II veteran, serving with the Japan Occupation Forces. Jim was a 55 year member of the Dover American Legion, George B. Preston Post #209. He was a Past Commander of the Post and was currently serving as House Historian. In 1949, Jim signed a contract to play 3rd base with the Washington Senators. Mr. McGill was the owner of McGill Forest Products in Dover. He was a former commissioner of Dover Little League and a member of the town planning board. Jim loved to sail. He was the beloved husband of Shirley (Bond) and the loving father of Pamela M. Cyr and her husband Andre of Springfield VT, Cynthia M. Sauve and her husband Ronald of Eliot, ME, Wendy J. McGill of Haverhill, James K. “Jake” McGill III and his wife Lynn of Essex, CT and Thomas H. McGill and his wife Lisa of Dover. Brother of Richard McGill of Medfield and the late Robert J. and William B. McGill. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to the greet the family at the Dover American Legion, George B. Preston Post # 209 in Dover Center on Tuesday July 17th from 3-7 PM. A memorial service will be held in August at the Dover Church 17 Springdale Ave Dover on Thursday August 2nd at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
