Obituary

Funeral services will be held on Monday for Philip Gliserman, a resident of Revere for over 70 years. Philip entered into eternal rest at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Facility in Revere on July 13, 2007. He was the beloved husband of the late Nora (Silverman) Gliserman who passed away in 2002.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on March 1, 1910, he was the son of the late Hyman & Fanny (Minkoff) Gliserman. He was a graduate of the Class of 1929-A at Malden High School where he was a track star, & the Class of 1933 at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. An avid reader of both fiction & poetry, he also kept current with advances in his profession, & took great pride in the role he played relative to the health of his many customers over the almost 75 years that he practiced pharmacy. Philip worked until April ’07 at Colonial Drug on Brattle St. in Cambridge. He maintained an active lifestyle until a recent illness, having won second place in the Governor’s Cup 5 kilometer walkathon at the age of 80. Philip was a member of Temple B’Nai Israel of Beachmont where he served as Congregation President as well as President of the Brotherhood.

Philip was the devoted father of Eileen McNamara & her late husband Paul of N. Easton , Saul Gliserman & his wife Jane of Winthrop, & Martin Gliserman & his wife Marilyn Rye of Highland Park, NJ. Loving grandfather of Maggie Berardi, Jamie McNamara, & Nicholas Gliserman & cherished great-grandfather of Joey Paul Berardi & Nicholas Berardi. Dear brother of Rose Blayman of Brookline & the late George Gliserman. He is also survived by his surrogate son, Tony Piraino, as well as two nieces, Gail Gliserman of Revere, Jane Wiseman of Stoneham, and several grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2007 at 12:30 PM in Temple B’Nai Israel of Beachmont, 1 Wave Ave. Revere, MA 02151. Rabbi Mark Sokoll will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kehillath Jacob of Mattapan Cemetery, Baker St. West Roxbury. Memorial observance will be held at Philip’s late residence in Revere after 4 PM on Monday & from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations in Philip’s memory be made to Temple B’Nai Israel of Beachmont at the above address.
