Mrs. Vivian Kendrix Mizell, 89, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Thursday, July 12, 2007 at the Heritage Manor in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 18, at Ocilla Baptist Church, with Dr. Jim Britt officiating. Interment will follow in the Ocilla Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Born May 28, 1918, in Tifton, to the late Frank A. and Edna Mae King Kendrix, she lived in the community since 1938 from Quitman. Mrs. Mizell was a former resident of Flagler Beach FL and Stuart, FL, where she graduated high school as valedictorian and class president. Mrs. Mizell was a former employee of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, First State Bank and was one of the original employees of the Bank Of Ocilla. After resigning from the Bank of Ocilla, she decided to go to college, ABAC, where she accepted a position in the Computer Center, working until retirement. She was honored by being named Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges. Mrs. Mizell was co-founder of H&M Grocery and Mizell’s Nursey. She joined the Ocilla Baptist Church in 1938. As active members, she and her husband began a BYTU where they worked with the young people of the church. She worked in the Sunday School Primary Department, was church clerk and a member of the adult choir. Mrs. Mizell was a member of the Ocilla Garden Club and the Us And Others Club.
Mrs. Mizell is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Juanita & Allan Oates of Coconut Creek, FL; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews as well as a special niece-in-law, Anice Mizell Weekley of Ft. McCoy, FL. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, A.D. “Buddy” Mizell, brother, Frank Kendrix; infant sisters, Mildred and Patricia and sisters, Grace Jane Corbitt, Thelma Prince and Geraldeane Simmons Demouey.
