NEW BEDFORD — Edward Francis Meehan, age 85 years, of New Bedford, died at home unexpectedly on July 6, 2007. He was the husband of Barbara (Hathaway) Meehan.
Born in South Boston, son of the late William and Mary Pender Meehan, he graduated from high school and attended Harvard University.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he was employed for many years as manager for the New Bedford Gas and Edison Light Company until retiring.
A lover of the ocean and pleasure boating, he was a member of the Independence Yacht Club in Onset, and a lifetime member of the local YMCA.
In addition to his wife he is survived by six sons, Edward F. Jr., Douglas R., Thomas W., Kenneth R., William M., and Russell C. Meehan; his sister, Ruth Coleman; a dear friend Patricia A. Flori; 13 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late William I. Meehan and Mary R. Meehan.
His funeral will take place from the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., NB on Friday, July 13, 2007, at 9 A.M., followed by a funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi at 10 A.M. Burial in the veterans section of Rural Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 P.M. Remembrances in his name may be made to the YMCA, 25 South Water St., New Bedford, MA 02740
