Marjorie was born in Woburn, MA to Margaret and Thomas Manley; she was the youngest of five children. She grew up in the Blueberry Hill section of Woburn.
As a child Marjorie visited Wells Beach in Maine with her family. These early visits were the foundation of a yearly tradition to vacation at Wells Beach with many beloved family members, specifically her sister and best friend, Marie and many dear friends taking part.
Marjorie attended Saint Charles School. She was valedictorian of her graduating class, at the age of 16. Following graduation she worked at the Boston Post Newspaper.
Marjorie married the late David T. Haskell at 23 and they started their family life in Woburn. Soon they moved to Tewksbury, where they raised their family.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Marjorie worked as a bus driver at Cole’s Kindergarten and at the Tewksbury Jr. High School Cafeteria. She also started a life long vocation of volunteering by being a school room mother, Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout troop leader, CCD teacher and volunteering at the Tewksbury State Hospital.
At the age of fifty Marjorie attended the Tewksbury State Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated and became an LPN. She then worked at the hospital until retirement.
After retirement Marjorie continued volunteering, specifically at The House of Hope, The Lowell Open Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, The Catholic Charities Food Pantry, Julie House and participating in the weekly prayer meetings at the Tewksbury State Hospital among others. She was then honored as Volunteer of the Year in the City of Lowell.
A woman of great faith, Marjorie has also been very active in her parish of St Williams in Tewksbury. She was a Eucharistic Minister and an active member of the parish council, lay associates, ladies sodality, and the Oblate Associates.
Throughout her life Marjorie made many friends. Being friends with her meant you had a friend for life who would always be there for you.
Marjorie was treasured and will be sorely missed by her friends and family. She generously offered her love, time, energy and resources too. Margie’s special skill of listening and offering wise advice was appreciated by many.
Marjorie was sister of the late Tom Manley and sister in law of the late Florence Manley, the late Bunny Manley and sister in law of the late Louise Manley, sister of Joe Manley and sister in law of Kay Manley, sister and best friend Marie “Ree” and sister in law of the late Bill Leonard. She also leaves her life long friend and “family” Rosemary “Sis” Brophy.
Marjorie was predeceased by her beloved in–laws James and Bea Manning, Art and Dot Kilmurray, Bud and Marcie Haskell, Jack Haskell, Bill and Eileen Haskell, Bob Haskell and leaves her sister-in-law Terry Haskell.
Marjorie leaves her loving children David and daughter in-law Christine Haskell, Elaine and son-in-law Bill Lekas and Nancy Haskell.
Marjorie leaves her beloved grandchildren Christine Haskell, Brian Haskell, Ben Goulet, Maria Hamm, Teddy Hamm and great grand-child Dougie Chambers.
Marjorie leaves many beloved cousins, especially, Doris and Joe, nieces, especially; Donna, Pati, Judy, Chrissy and Trisha, nephews, especially; Tommy, Dicky, Topper and Paul, niece and nephew in-laws, grand nieces and grand nephews, all of whom were very special to her.
Finally, Marjorie leaves her many dear friends. She treasured you all for your unique and beautiful selves.
Marjorie believed in and lived a life of giving, if you do that you will honor her memory.
Calling hours Thursday, July 12th, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Friday, July 13th, at 10 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
