Obituary


ATHLEEN "BILLIE" (WILLIAMS) GOFF, a Hingham resident for 68 years, died on Monday evening, July 9th at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She was 91. Born Nov. 7th, 1915 in North Smithfield, Rhode Island, her parents were Clifford Peck Williams and Florence B. (Turner) Williams, who moved to Hopedale, MA in 1923 following a disastrous fire which consumed their entire home and belongings. She was educated in the Hopedale schools, graduating from high school in the Class of 1933. Following graduation. she was employed in the Milford National Bank in Milford, MA, serving as executive secretary to the president.

On Christmas eve 1938, she was married to Carleton N. Goff, her high school sweeheart and classmate. They moved into their new home in Hingham on Dec. 28, 1938 and have lived there ever since. A daughter, Janet Elizabeth, was born on Oct. 24, 1948.

Athleen was a charter member of the Hingham Mother's Club and served as treasurer in numerous organizations including the Hingham Visiting Nurse Association and the Massachusetts General Hospital Service League. Her hobbies were rug hooking, knitting, bridge, cross stitching and was particularly devoted to her home life and family.

She leaves her beloved husband, Carleton N. Goff, and was the adored mother of Janet (Goff) Daubenspeck of Hingham. Athleen was also the cherished grandmother of Sarah (Daubenspeck) McClure and Laura Ingles Daubenspeck. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Marjorie W. Horton of Hopedale.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, July 14th at 11 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.

Visiting hours and flowers, omitted by family request. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Hingham Congregational Church, 366 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043.

The interment is to be private.
