Salem: Marion (Marquis) Gagnon age 86 of Salem, died Saturday morning, July 7, 2007, at the Jewish Rehabilitation Center in Swampscott following a long illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Richard A. Gagnon.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Levesque) Marquis. A graduate of St. Chretienne Academy, she was valedictorian of her class. As a young woman she worked on military components for Sylvania during the World War II years. She later worked for E.G. & G in Salem.
Marion was a devoted wife, daughter, mother and grandmother. For years she cared for her parents and later for her husband in his declining health years. She was also a deeply religious woman who was dedicated to serving her church, the former St. Joseph Parish. Prior to her illness, she attended daily mass and held the office of president as well as several other offices for Les Dames de la Ste. Famille of that parish.
Marion also loved music, was an accomplished pianist and loved to dance.
She is survived by 3 sons: Richard J. Gagnon & his wife Maureen of Rowley, Robert A. & his wife Jude of Omaha, NE, Gerald G. & his wife Janette of Salem, 1 daughter Elizabeth T. Gagnon of Colorado Springs, CO, 1 sister: Theresa Merry & her husband Benjamin of Danvers, 8 grandchildren: Michelle Tudor, Christopher, Marc, Robert, Jonathan, Andrew & Stacey Gagnon & Veronica Dick, 6 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Jeannette Blanchette.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral on Tuesday at 10:30 am from the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem followed by her funeral mass in St. James Church, Federal St., Salem at 11 am. Visiting hours will precede her mass from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the Alzheimer’s Assoc. 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
