Mulroy, Dorothy (Drinkwater) 94, Of Wellesley Hills and Ocean Bluff, Marshfield, died July 6, 2007 of a heart attack. Devoted mother of Betty A. Mulroy of Columbia, MD, Wellesley Hills, and Marshfield; grandmother of Adrienne Dorothy L. Smith of Pembroke and her husband James, and Andrew Leicester of Charlotte, North Carolina and his wife Tamara; great-grandmother of Zachary Smith, Sage Smith, and James Leicester. She is predeceased by sisters E. Rose Drinkwater, and Alma L. Drinkwater and brothers Arthur A. Drinkwater, Joseph Drinkwater, and Charles Drinkwater. Mrs. Mulroy was born June 7, 1913 in Hyde Park, Mass. to Joseph and Margaret Elizabeth (McDonough) Drinkwater. A student of ballet and classical music, Mrs. Mulroy was a nearly lifelong resident of Wellesley Hills, MA, graduating from Wellesley High School in 1931, Wellesley College in 1935, and receiving a Masters degree from Boston University in 1937. In 1941 she married Martin Mulroy of Quincy (deceased). After completing her degrees, Mrs. Mulroy worked at the Brown Elementary School in Wellesley and then the Thorndike Laboratory in Boston which was then conducting ground-breaking blood research. To share her love of scientific inquiry, Mrs. Mulroy became an inspirational science teacher, first in Attleboro and then in Weston, shepherding numerous students to state and national science fair glory. During her retirement, Mrs. Mulroy played a major role in raising her grandchildren, and drove across the country at least 10 times exploring different routes and educating the grandchildren about the natural world. A gardener, environmentalist, and avid follower of current events, Mrs. Mulroy was a picture of health who walked the beach daily and credited her longevity to salmon, blueberries, and a bit of red wine.
