Obituary

WORCESTER-Elizabeth L. (McKenna) Welsh, 78, of 76 Deerfield Street, died Friday, July 6th in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center. She was married for 46 years to her husband, John F. Welsh, Jr. who died in 2000. She leaves two sons, John F. Welsh, III and his wife Diane of Milford, and James M. Welsh and his wife Lisa of Worcester; a daughter, Nancy M. Welsh of Worcester; a sister, Carole F. Golaski of Enfield, CT; a cousin, Joyce Johnson of Worcester; 6 grandchildren, Patrick, Laura, Michael, Rebecca, John and Rachel; several nephews and nieces; and two lifelong best friends, Irene McGuiness and Terry Martin. A brother, William McKenna predeceased her.

She was born in Worcester, the daughter of William and M. Myrtle (Hunt) McKenna and graduated from Saint Peter’s High School. Mrs. Welsh was member of Saint Andrew the Apostle Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of its Women’s Guild. She worked for New England Telephone for many years in several capacities, including operator, supervisor and clerk, before retiring in 1991. Mrs. Welsh belonged to the Telephone Pioneers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker’s.

Betty took great joy in the activities of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading and playing cards with her friends. She was also an active member of her church and volunteer.

The funeral is Tuesday, July 10th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, July 9, 2007 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, 559 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
