Obituary

Myra Carolyn Christensen, 83, of Mashantucket, Connecticut, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, passed peacefully surrounded by her family, on Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the Mary Elizabeth Nursing Home in Mystic, CT.

An august member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Myra touched the hearts and lives of many during her lifetime. Born February 27, 1924 in Groton Bank, Connecticut, to John and Jennie (Williams) George, she grew up in the Stonington Borough and Mystic areas. During World War II, Myra worked as a welder at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut. She loved dancing, roller skating, and was an avid camper and member of the National Campers and Hikers Association for many years. In addition to Connecticut, where she was proud to be a member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Elders Council and Peacemakers, Myra made her home and many friends in the Great Salt Lake Valley, Utah and Elkhart County, Indiana, where she retired from Syndicate Store Fixtures.

Myra loved spending time with her family and friends, taking special pride in each child's accomplishments. She leaves behind her three children, Thomas A. Christensen, Joyce M.(Christensen) Walker and John H. Christensen; seven grandchildren, Carolynn (Walker) Green, James D. Walker, Timothy Walker, Melissa Christensen, Alisha Christensen, Clinton Christensen and Kelli Christensen; seven great grandchildren, Tiffany (Mackensworth) Deroche, Christina Morrissette, Corwin Walker, Joycelynn Green, Meghean Walker, Jessica Walker, and Random Walker; one great great grandchild, Mashquanon Walker George; and her nephews, John, Michael, and Larry Holder whom she adored. Myra was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Parley P. Christensen, and her sister Mildred (George) Holder.

Family and Friends will be welcomed on Monday, July 9, from 9 am at the Mashantucket Pequot Spiritual Center, 938 Shewville Road, Mashantucket, with memorial service to start at Noon. Myra will be interred at Rice Cemetary, Elkhart, Indiana on Thursday, July 12, at 10:30 am.
