Shrewsbury, MA/Pittsfield, MA - Francis E. McLaughlin, age 91, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 5th, at UMass Memorial Medical Center, Memorial Campus surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his son, William J. McLaughlin MD and his wife Anne Seger MD of Boylston MA, his grandchildren Ryan P. McLaughlin of Berlin, Germany and Meghan J. McLaughlin of Brookline, MA. He is also survived by his sister, Emily Leahy of Lexington, MA. and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife of 50 years, L. Esther McLaughlin (Anthony) of Pittsfield MA who died in 1998. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Harry McLaughlin of Bristol New Hampshire and Robert McLaughlin of Concord, MA.
Mr. McLaughlin was born on Sept, 10, 1915, the son of Francis McLaughlin and Rosene O. vonSchoppe, and was raised in Somerville, MA. After serving in World War II he moved to Pittsfield MA and two years ago to Shrewsbury MA.
Mr. McLaughlin was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army in the Pacific corridor. He was an investigator and hearings officer for the Registry of Motor Vehicles retiring in 1979 after 32 years of service.
“Mac” was “Grampy” to all who met him and was famous for his Irish cheer and his wondrous smile. He loved the Red Sox and spending time on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire.
Calling hours will be Sunday evening, July 8th from 5-7 pm at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. Worcester MA. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 9th at 11 am at Our Lady of Good Council in West Boylston, MA. The burial will be a private family service on Tuesday, July 10th in Pittsfield MA.
